Explore the canvas using paint, fiber and thread! Find your intuitive, personal style in this introductory multi-media workshop. Local artist Kelly Wallis guides you through the steps to first build your abstract painting and then use fiber and thread to embellish and layer! Participants will use paint, brushes, scrapers, glue, needles and embroidery thread. Everyone will leave with a 10x10” finished work on canvas.

ABOUT KELLY WALLIS

Kelly is an optimist. This is apparent in her fresh approach to design and her enthusiasm to constantly learn and develop new skills. She believes that creativity can manifest itself through a daily routine and she uses this as inspiration in her body of work. Kelly has been cultivating her relationship with the world through travel, art and exploring the High Sierra Mountain range. She believes you should be adventurous in life as well as in your portfolio. Kelly respects the craftsmanship and artistry her industry is capable of and this reflects in her work and her attention to detail.

Kelly received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism with an emphasis in advertising from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2007. She went on to portfolio school in Chicago where she focused on typography, layout and design thinking and interned with Lester and Lucy Press where she cultivated her love for print and letterpress. Her life took root in Reno, NV where she worked as the senior designer under Stan Byers at Stan Can Design™ creating award-winning design work. She is currently the workshop manager at Atelier Truckee and holds a MFA with a focus on Interdisciplinary Arts from Sierra Nevada College.
